木津川市防災フェアにて「災害体験VR」を出展

京都府木津川市で開催された防災フェアにて、木津川市危機管理課様、相楽中部消防組合様、そして陸上自衛隊宇治駐屯地の皆さまと共に、弊社「災害体験VR」を出展いたしました。

会場にはご家族連れを中心に多くの方々が来場され、防災意識を高めるための多彩な展示が行われました。 消防の起震車や消火器の使用体験、消防車への搭乗体験、陸上自衛隊の給水支援車両の展示など、日頃から災害現場で活躍されている皆さまの工夫と熱意が詰まった内容に、ご来場された皆様も目を輝かせていました。

行列ができるほどの関心「災害体験VR」への反響

弊社の開発・展示している「災害体験VR」にも、多くの方が足を止め、長い行列ができるほどのご関心を多くの会場でお寄せいただいています。

私たちが大切にしているのは、「体験を通じた気づき、防災意識の底上げ」です。 防災を自分ごととして捉えるためには、実際に揺れや火災、洪水などの災害を「体験」してみることが非常に効果的だと考えています。 VRを通して災害の現場に身を置くことで、「もし自分がその場にいたらどう行動するか？」「家族をどう守るか？」といった現実的な視点が芽生えます。

また、災害体験VRがフェアの最初の入り口となることで、他の展示内容にも自然と興味が広がる様子が見られたのも、他所での展示と同じく非常に印象的でした。

私たちの災害体験VRが目指すもの

私たちの研究開発チームは防災・災害医療分野においてXR技術（VR・ARなどの仮想現実技術）を日々活用した教育・啓発のあり方を探求しています。

また私たちのVRコンテンツの大きな特徴の一つは、単に災害の様子を3DCGで見せるだけではなく、地域ごとの災害特性や避難行動を踏まえたナレーションやテロップをカスタマイズし、現地の人々が本当に「使える」学びを提供することを大切にしています。

例えば、同じ災害でも、地形や過去の災害履歴により、避難のタイミングやルートは異なります。 その地域ならではの防災知識を映像の中に組み込むことで、より具体的でリアルな行動学習が可能になります。

「誰もが災害に備えられる社会」を目指して

我が国は災害大国です。 しかし「知っている」だけでは命を守れない現実があります。 私たちは、災害の記憶を風化させず、誰もが主体的に備える力を身につけられる環境を、XRという技術の力で実現したいと考えています。

今回の木津川市防災フェアでの体験を通して、あらためて「体験することの力」と、それを求めている人の多さを実感しました。 今後も地域の皆さまと協力しながら、実践的かつ効果的な防災教育のあり方を広げていきたいと考えています。

Many people, especially families, visited the venue where various exhibits were held to raise disaster awareness. Visitors were captivated by the innovative and passionate demonstrations from professionals who work at disaster sites daily, including experiences with the fire department's earthquake simulator, fire extinguisher training, fire engine boarding experiences, and displays of water support vehicles from the Ground Self-Defense Force.

Long Lines of Interest: The Response to "Disaster Experience VR"

Our "Disaster Experience VR" development and exhibition has attracted significant attention at many venues, with people stopping to try it and forming long lines.

What we value most is "raising disaster awareness through experiential learning." We believe that actually "experiencing" earthquakes, fires, floods, and other disasters is extremely effective in helping people consider disaster prevention as a personal matter. By placing oneself in a disaster scene through VR, people develop practical perspectives such as "How would I act if I were there?" and "How would I protect my family?"

It was also very impressive to see, as at other exhibitions, how the Disaster Experience VR served as an initial entry point, naturally expanding visitors' interest to other exhibits at the fair.

The Aim of Our Disaster Experience VR

Our research and development team explores ways to utilize XR technology (virtual reality technologies such as VR and AR) for education and awareness in disaster prevention and disaster medicine.

One major feature of our VR content is that we don't simply show 3DCG images of disasters; we customize narration and text overlays based on regional disaster characteristics and evacuation behaviors, prioritizing learning that people can actually "use" in their local contexts.

For example, even for the same type of disaster, evacuation timing and routes differ depending on terrain and past disaster history. By incorporating region-specific disaster prevention knowledge into the visuals, more concrete and realistic behavioral learning becomes possible.

With cooperation from community members, we've also created "Fire Extinguisher Demonstration VR" footage.

Aiming for "A Society Where Everyone Can Prepare for Disasters"

Japan is a disaster-prone country. However, merely "knowing" about disasters is not enough to save lives. Using XR technology, we aim to prevent the fading of disaster memories and create an environment where everyone can develop the ability to prepare proactively.

Through our experience at the Kizugawa City Disaster Prevention Fair, we were reminded of the power of experiential learning and how many people are seeking such experiences. Moving forward, we plan to continue working with local communities to expand practical and effective disaster prevention education.
